What is Genie?


The word genie (jinn”) often refers to a race of supernatural creatures capable of granting wishes. Genie is always ready to take orders from its master and execute them with no delay.  The genie character became very popular from Aladdin’s fairy tale.

Why did you call 800 Genie?

800 Genie is a genie from 800 PBX which will help you with some of the everyday tasks without any data dependencies. Genie provides a wide gamut of services including reading and replying to your mail (Gmail, Yahoo!, AOL and all IMAP service providers are supported), real-time tele-blogging, group messaging, reminders, traffic updates, directions, weather, pod casts, various kinds of news including business, top stories, sports etc. Genie can also maintain your calendar and notes.

Genie is at the service of its master 24x7 making the product name apt.

Is the service free?

Yes, 800 Genie is an absolutely free service from 800 PBX, the smart telephony solutions provider for small businesses and entrepreneurs. You can take advantage of the genie after you sign up.

How is 800 Genie different from other voice services?

800 Genie is the first personalized voice service. The user can completely personalize the call including listing multiple phone numbers from which he may call, the applications he is interested in (like email, reminders etc), preferences for each of the application.

How do I sign up?

Signing up is simple with 800 Genie. The registration is very easy and guided. Click here to sign up.

Is signing up mandatory to be able to use Genie?

No. You can still use Genie without signing in. However, your usability will be limited to few applications which do not need prior setup (like email etc). In short, there will not be any personalization possible without signing in.

We recommend users to register with us so that they can get personalized services from Genie. Furthermore, your favorites and my stuff will not be accessible without signing up.

 

Signing up is just a 2 minutes process. You have to provide your basic information such as your name, phone number, pin etc. This is a courtesy service and we do not need your billing information for signing up. Further, your information is strictly confidential and 800 PBX does not share the user’s data with any one.

What are favorites?

800 Genie is the first service which offers personalization over the telephone. Genie has support for wide gamut of services. Instead of picking your application from a wide range of choices, you can tag your interested applications as “favorites”. Once added to favorites, the user can start accessing the application directly from favorites menu.

What is “My Stuff”? Why is it useful?

My stuff is favorites among favorites. They are like your “super favorites” which you can access by one voice command (My stuff). 

Genie can directly read out your email, first 5 appointments or can retrieve weather information for your area directly without requiring any input. Its one easy and convenient way to access over the phone while driving.

Please note that you are limited to three choices.

My speech is not recognized properly. What are my options?

We use one of the best speech recognition engines available in market. In spite of this, in some noisy environments, speech recognition might give wrong results. In such situations, we recommend the users to use dial-pad to dial the digits (dtmf) instead of speaking. If you prefer entering dtmf only, you can choose disable speech recognition from your settings.

Why am I not getting SMS messages?

Please check your carrier settings in your Settings section. If the carrier is listed correctly, please consult your carrier directly.

What if I wish to change the preferences once I sign up?

You may change your preferences by simply clicking on “Settings” after logging into your account.

Can I use this service with telephone numbers other than what I have provided at the time of Registration as User ID?

Yes. 800 Genie allows you to provide five additional phone numbers in “CallerID” in “Settings” page. However, each number has to be authenticated.

How can I access the demos?

Can 800 Genie remember my web settings?

Once the user registers and sets his preferences, 800 Genie will remember them. You can also change your preferences in “Settings” section which will be automatically remembered by 800 Genie even after modification.  For example, for weather updates of his area, the user can provide zip code and get updates directly without requiring any input.

What are the typical services available?

The typical services provided by 800 Genie are email, weather, traffic, technology, science, movies, jokes, reviews, business, finance, reminders, sports, education, entertainment and many more.

Is Genie available 24/7?
